Background

Element-B's are sensors that can connect to remote alarm or dry contacts, giving you the general alarm/no alarm state of the equipment it is connected to. The Element-B User Manual and various installation guides per asset can be found here:

General Troubleshooting Procedure

If you have an Element-B that is constantly in alarm state, first verify that you have the correct configuration of Element-B for the equipment that is it connected to. Element-Bs can either be configured as Normally Closed (NC) or Normally Open (NO) by Elemental Machines upon Fulfillment. The configuration information can be found on the packing slip provided with your devices. If you use an NC device for a NO remote alarm contact or vise versa, the alarm/no alarm status on the dashboard will be the opposite of what it is supposed to be.

One of the most common scenarios that would cause an Element-B to constantly be in an alarm state specifically applies to NC devices. If a NC device is not installed properly (i.e. bad electrical connection), or it is not installed at all, the wire contacts will naturally be in the “open” state, which the device will interpret as an alarm. If this is the case, double check that the wires/connectors are secure and have good electrical contact.

Sensaphone Water Rope Sensor

If you are using an Element-B with the Sensaphone Water Rope Sensor, and are getting a false or persistent alarms, please review possible reasons below:

  • Presence of metal
  • Sediment/soap
  • Power issues
  • Low battery
  • Bent battery clip
  • Battery pops out
  • Thermocouple leads not plugged in
  • Install conditions are not ideal - e.g. rope coiled up and conductive wire points in contact with each other.

Possible solutions for the issues listed above are replacing the battery for the Water Sensor itself, double checking all electrical connections, or cleaning the rope with de-ionized water to ensure there is no residue.
