Note: There are (2) magnets with every Element-T. One is inside the plastic enclosure and allows the device to be mounted on magnetic surfaces. The other is a small, circular magnet that holds the thermocouple in place inside of equipment with magnetic surfaces.
1. Use the magnet inside of every Element.
- The Element-T has a magnet built into the body of the device. Look for surfaces that are magnetic along the outside hinge side of the door for installation.
- When no magnetic surfaces are available double-sided foam tape or velcro squares are good alternatives.
2. Mount Elements on non-moving surfaces if possible.
- Always mount the Element to the stationary part of the machine and the thermocouple to the moving part, if necessary
- If mounting to a piece of equipment with moving parts be aware of possible pinch points for the thermocouple lead
- Mounting on doors, movable trays, or portable equipment is strongly discouraged and can result in thermocouple lead management issues
3. Route the thermocouple lead through gaskets on the hinge side of the door if possible
- Running leads through the hinge side of the door will prevent snags and interference issues.
4. Gather the thermocouple lead and use a twist/zip tie to help secure it out of the way. It is also possible to wrap the thermocouple lead around plug to remove slack from line, minimizing snag opportunities.
5. Use the included magnet to hold the thermocouple lead in the sensing location:
- Thread the thermocouple lead through the small holes in the magnet and then loop the lead through the large hole to secure it. If installing on a piece of equipment that gets below freezing, it may be best to point the thermocouple tip perpendicular from the wall to maintain accurate readings even when the walls build up ice.
- If there are no magnetic surfaces for the included magnet, use a suitable tape for the temperature range, e.g. Kapton or cryogenic tape.
6. If possible, position the end of the thermocouple lead where it will not be disturbed. Note that if you are concerned about detecting door-open events, the lead should be closer to the door. If you are monitoring general temperature conditions, placing the lead farther inside of the equipment will show fewer fluctuations and provide more accurate temperature reading.
7. Make sure there is a gateway centrally located to the installed elements.
- Element-to-Gateway range is approximately 20-30m (65-100ft).
- Element-to-Gateway range can be affected by interior walls, equipment, and other radio signals.
- Elements updating on the dashboard about every minute is an indicator that they are inside of the range to the gateway.
- The gateway is not water resistant and should be mounted outside of any splash zones.
- If you require additional gateways please contact your local Elemental Machines sales rep or email help@elementalmachines.com.
