Dashboard Release 3.96.0 - August 6, 2024
New Login Page
- Implemented a new login flow for The Elemental Machines Insights Dashboard (the Dashboard) to better accommodate customers using Single Sign-On. Users will now need to enter the login username (email) as the first step. Saved usernames in the browser will work in this step. If you are a direct login user you will then be asked for your password. Saved login passwords in a browser will also work in this step. If you are an SSO user it will not ask for a password and will instead authenticate you against your companies identity provider and then bring you into our application.
Single Sign-On (SSO) Enhancements
The Dashboard is a web application requiring login authentication either through direct-logins with usernames and passwords or through a Customer's identity provider using Single Sign-On (SSO). In this release we are adding support for the SAML standard in addition to Okta OAUTH standard we have supported for some time now. The addition of SAML will provide an SSO option for a broader set of identity providers like Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) and Google.
When login authentication is implemented using SSO, customers can provision basic access to our Dashboard from their identity provider on their end making it easier to manage access for employees and easier for employees to access our system. Access roles and other Dashboard user configuration will still need to be managed within the Dashboard by an Admin user.
Process for Switchover to SAML SSO - Connect with your Customer Success Manager if you are interested in connecting to the Dashboard using an SSO option. Elemental Machines will coordinate the transition with you and you and your IT team following two simple steps:
Meet to discuss transition plan and timing and gather Identity Provider credentials - 20 minutes
Meet to make the changes and implement the transition plan - 30 minutes
SSO for Elemental Mobile app is coming soon. For customers that want to switch over to one of our SSO options and use the mobile app
Enhancements to Reports Page
Reorganized the main Dashboard Reports section adding a new tabbed setup - sections have moved under tabs and been renamed.
SCHEDULED REPORTS - moved under REPORT RULES AND TEMPLATES tab and renamed to RECURRING REPORTS
ON-DEMAND REPORTS - moved under REPORT RULES AND TEMPLATES tab and renamed to REPORT TEMPLATES
PAST REPORTS - Now appear under the REPORTS tab and renamed to ALL REPORTS
New tab added for FILES AND EXPORTS used with data exporting (see below)
Improved Data Exporting
The Dashboard now supports offline data exports allowing larger data sets to be exported for Machines, up to 1 year of data at one time.
This new capability is triggered from the same location on the Machines page in the Data Logbook tab by clicking on the Export CSV button. New with this feature, you will now choose the timeframe and sample rate and notification option from the window that pops up.
Exports will be run in the background and appear in the Reports section under the FILES AND EXPORTS. For large exports that take a little while, you can choose the option for E-mail notification to tell you when the CSV exports is complete. For most exports going right to the Reports section using the link provided in the notification bar that confirms the export submission and you will see the export as the next entry. If the export is still processing it will indicate that in the status column. Refresh the page or wait for email to notifiy you that processing is complete and then use the down-arrow to download to your machine locally.
NOTE: For large exports, remember that spreadsheet tools have a row limit, and larger exports may exceed that limit and truncate your data export when you import it. In these situations you might need to choose a shorter timeframe for export or use a different tool to handle the exported data.
