Note: You may receive multiple types of cables if you are connecting Element-D’s to different types of assets.

Installation Instructions
Receiving the Shipment
1. If this is your first time setting up the Elemental Machines system, you will receive an email for your dashboard account verification. Save this email for when the devices arrive.
2. When devices are shipped, they will be added to your Elemental Insights Dashboard with default names. When you first log in you will see all your devices with a 'disconnected' status.
3. When devices arrive, carefully remove the contents from the packaging. If any of the contents look damaged, please send a picture to help@elementalmachines.com.
4. Confirm the Element-D’s in your package are labeled with the assets to which they are to connect. If the labels do not match the intended assets for connection, please contact help@elementalmachines.com.
Element-D Initial Power-up
5. Plug the Element-D in using the provided power supply.
6. Complete Wi-Fi Connection following instructions in the provided 771-00010 Wi-Fi Connection Guide - Gateway GW2/3, Element-C/D.
a. 771-00010 is included with your Element-D as a printed copy. Digital versions of this are available in the Support section of the Elemental Insights Dashboard.

7. Locate the RS232 data port on the asset (shown in Figure 1) to which the Element-D will connect.

8. Plug the RS232 end into the RS232 port on the scale and the USB end into the USB port on the Element D.

Configuring Asset Menus
9. Press and hold Tare. Upon release, the Menu will appear on the balance display with Calibrate underneath.
For reference: The Menu Controls are shown below. To navigate the menu,
- Left button (On/Zero/Off) = Yes
- Middle button (Print Units) = No
- Right button (Tare/Menu Cal) = Exit
10. Press No until the screen reads Print-1.
11. Press Yes.
12. Press No until the screen reads Content.
13. Press Yes.
14. Press No until the screen reads Gross.
15. Press Yes.
a. If the words under Gross read Set On, press Yes.
b. If they are not, press No. The screen will display Set On. Press Yes.
16. The screen will now read Net, press Yes.
a. If the words under Net read Set On, press Yes.
b. If they are not, press No. The screen will display Set On. Press Yes.
17. The screen will now read Tare, press Yes.
a. If the words under Tare read Set On, press Yes.
18. If they are not, press No. The screen will display Set On. Press Yes.
19. Press No until the screen reads Result, then press Yes.
a. If the words under Result read Set Off, press Yes.
b. If they are not, press No. The screen will display Set Off. Press Yes.
20. Press No until the bottom of the screen reads Endprint-1.
21. Press Yes.
22. Press No until you reach the RS232-1 menu item.
23. Press Yes.
24. The bottom will flash Baud. Press Yes.
a. If the number under Baud is 9600, press Yes.
25. If it is not, press No until you reach 9600. Press Yes.
26. The bottom will say Parity.
27. Press Yes.
a. If the words under Parity are 8 No Parity, press Yes.
b. They are not press No until they are, then press Yes.
28. The bottom will read Handshake. Press Yes.
a. If the words under Handshake are No, press Yes.
b. If not, press No until they are and then Yes.
29. Press Yes.
30. The bottom will say End RS232, press Yes.
31. Press Exit.
Attaching Connection Cable to Element
32. Plug the other end of the Connection Cable into the data port on the Element-D. This will be the USB port and the cable can be plugged into any of the four USB ports as seen in Figure 3.

Positioning the Element-D
33. Determine where the Element-D should be placed to allow for power access and a tidy connection cable.
34. Securely position the Element-D in the chosen location. The Element-D has magnets which make it easily mountable to magnetic surfaces.
a. Note: If applicable, an adhesive metal mounting plate available from EM may be used.
Finalization
35. To send a weight measurement to the Elemental Insights Dashboard, you must first tare the scale so it is able to capture three channels of data (gross, net, and tare weights).
36. Then press PRINT.
37. Confirm that the value appears on the dashboard. (The dashboard may only display two digits after the decimal point. However, transfer to any third party platforms will include the full value.).
38. If the dashboard does not display any value, check cable connection and menu settings. Contact help@elementalmachines.com if problem persists.
39. Contact any third-party vendor for next steps regarding communication to the external platform (if applicable).
