Introduction

This page provides work instructions on how to setup an Element to connect to the digital output of a Bacharach MGS-550 Dual gas monitor with CO2 and O2 sensors.


Materials

Your package contains the following items:

  • Element-D Modbus w/Power Supply
  • Connection cable


Equipment Needed for Setup

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Allen wrench 


Setup Instructions

1. Carefully remove the contents from its packaging.  If any of the contents looks damaged, please send a picture of the contents to help@elementalmachines.com. 

2. Power on the Element-D and complete the Wifi Connect instructions. Power off the Element-D when complete.

3. Per Bacharach installation instructions, complete all wiring connections before powering on the unit. 

4. Open the housing of the Bacharach MGS-550 by unscrewing the six screws (circled) on the face of the monitor.


5. If both sensors are not connected to the monitor, route sensor cables inside the housing as specified in user operating manual. Plug the sensor cables into the connectors on the top middle of the circular board in the monitor.  The O2 sensor must be plugged into the port on the right (labeled J3), and the CO2 sensor must be plugged into the port on the left (labeled J2). 


6. Unscrew and remove a nut on one of the cable passthroughs and remove the stopper. 


7. Thread the nut over the cable and pass the cable through the opening.


8. Using a flathead screwdriver, attach the cable leads to the screw terminals as follows:

9. After all components are connected, close the Bacharach housing and power on the unit. It may take 10 minutes or longer for the sensors to start up. Wait for the unit display to go live before checking for data on the Elemental Machines dashboard.

10. Plug the USB end of the connection cable into the Element-D. 

11. Power on the Element-D.  

12. Confirm that data appears on the Elemental Machines dashboard. Set up any desired alerts on the Elemental Machines dashboard.
