Introduction

This page provides work instructions on how to setup the Endress + Hauser Prowirl Flow Meter powered by the Element-C.  


Materials

  • Element-C 
  • 2-wire Connection Cable
  • Mounting plate

Equipment

  • Small flathead screwdriver

Procedure

1. Carefully remove the contents from its packaging.  If any of the contents looks damaged, please send a picture of the contents to help@elementalmachines.com.  

2. Power on the Element-C and complete the Wifi Connect instructions. Power off the Element-C when Wifi setup is complete.

3. Unscrew the side cap on the right side of the the flow meter (when looking top down).

4. Route the connection cable through one of the two cable glands, circled in Figure 1, on the left side of the flow meter (when looking top down).

5. Seal off the cable gland, as appropriate.

6. Route the cable through the flow meter to the green terminal block on the right side of the flow meter (when looking top down).

7. Wire the connection cable to the flow meter terminal block.

a.  Insert the RED wire into SLOT 1 of the green terminal block.

b. Insert the BLACk wire into SLOT 2 of the green terminal block.

c. See Figure 2 for the connection cable wired to the flow meter terminal block.

8. Wire the connection cable to the Element-C. Slightly unscrew the the screws for Slots 1 and 9 on the Element-C terminal block.

a. Insert the BLACK wire into SLOT 1 of the green terminal block.

b. Insert the RED wire into SLOT 9 of the green terminal block.

c. See Figure 3 for the cable connection wired to Element-C.

9. Plug the Element-C into wall power.  The Element-C will also power the Endress Prowirl flow meter. Make sure the flow meter is powered on by checking the display. 

10. Check the 4-20mA configuration on the flow meter.  

Caution:  If the volumetric flow rates for the 4 and 20mA values on the flow meter, do not match the values listed in 10(i), the Element-C will not report correct data.  If the values need to be changed from the values below, please contact help@elementalmachines.com.

a. Press the 'E' button on the flow meter display unit the Keylock message box appears.


b. Press the (+) button to move down the list to ‘Keylock off’


c. Press the 'E' button.


d. Press the 'E' button again to display the Main Menu.


e. Press the (+) button to move down the list to ‘Setup’.  Press the 'E' button.


f. Press the (+) button to move down the list to Curr.output 1. Press the 'E' button.


g. Press (+) to select Assign curr.1


h. Ensure the Current span is 4…20mA US. Press (+) to select the checkmark.


i. Confirm the 4mA and 20mA values are:

4mA= 0 ft3/min

20mA= 181 ft3/min

CAUTION:  If your application requires modifying these values, please contact help@elementalmachines.com to ensure that the device configuration is updated to accommodate these new settings.


j. If the values are not as listed in Step 10(g), select the appropriate value to change (either the 4mA or 20mA value) by pressing either:

  • 'E' to change the 4mA value
  • (+) and 'E' to change the 20mA value


11. Press the (+) and (-) to exit the menu.


12. Close off the side cap.

13. Install the flow meter and Element-C in the desired location.  

14. Check the Elemental Machines dashboard to ensure that data is populating. Setup desired alerts based on your specific use case.
