Introduction

This page provides work instructions on how to setup the Element-C to connect to the IFM UGT Level Sensor. These instructions apply to the following sensor models:

  • UGT501
  • UGT504
  • UGT507

Materials

Your package contains the following items:

  • Element-C w/Power Supply
  • Connection cable  NOTE: This is unique to the IFM UGT sensors

Equipment Needed for Setup

  • Small flathead screwdriver

Setup Instructions

  1. Carefully remove the contents from its packaging.  If any of the contents looks damaged, please send a picture of the contents to help@elementalmachines.com. 
  2. Plug in the Element-C and complete the Wifi Connect instructions (see attachment).
  3. Unplug the Element-C.
  4. Wire the Connection cable to Element-C. 
    1. Slightly loosen the screws in SLOTS 1, 2, 3, and 9 on the green terminal block on the Element-C.
    2. Insert the WHITE Wire from the Connection Cable into SLOT 1 of the green terminal block on the Element-C. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure in the slot.
    3. Insert the BLUE Wire from Connection Cable into SLOT 2 of the green terminal block on the Element-C. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure in the slot.
    4. Insert the BROWN Wire from Connection Cable into SLOT 9 of the green terminal block on the Element-C. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure in the slot.
    5. Insert the BLACK Wire from the Connection Cable into SLOT 3. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure in the slot. (NOTE: This wire is not used for normal operation is and merely held in place in Slot 3.)                Figure 1: Level sensor cable wiring into Element-C Terminal Block for operational mode
  5. Screw the M12 connector of the level sensor into the orange connector on the cable.
  6. Power on the Element-C. 
  7. Note this step only applies for TEACH mode. 
    1. Power off the Element-C. 
    2. Slightly loosen the screw for SLOT 2.
    3. Insert both the BLUE and BLACK Wires from the Connection Cable into Slot 2.
    4. Tighten the screw to ensure that both wires are secure in the slot.
    5. Power on the Element-C
    6. TEACH the device.
    7. When TEACH is complete, power off the Element-C and remove the BLACK Wire from Slot 2 and insert the wire back into Slot 3.                     Figure 2: Level sensor cable wiring into Element-C Terminal Block for TEACH mode

Note: Please note that the Element-C is configured such that 4mA corresponds to the low end of the distance measurement and 20mA corresponds to the high end of the distance measurement as shown in Figure 3.  The low and high ends of the distance measurements for each model is shown in Table 1.
