Introduction

This page provides work instructions on how to setup the Element-C to connect to the Thermo Forma 3950 and 3951 Reach-in Incubator.  

Materials

Your package contains the following items:

  • Element-C with Power Supply
  • Connection cable

NOTE: Both of these components are unique to the Thermo Forma 3950 and 3951 models.

Equipment Needed for Setup

  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Additional screwdriver needed for Thermo Forma Reach-In Incubator

Setup Instructions

  1. Carefully remove the contents from its packaging.  If any of the contents looks damaged, please send a picture of the contents to help@elementalmachines.com. 
  2. Plug in the Element-C and complete the Wifi Connect instructions (see attachment).
  3. Unplug the Element-C.
  4. Power off the Thermo Forma Reach-In Incubator.
  5. Remove the top of the Incubator.  Route the connection cable through the Auxiliary Hole for Cables on the back of the incubator, as shown in Figure 1.                     Figure 1: Location of the Auxiliary Hole for Cables on the back of the Incubator
  6.  Locate the Analog Output board, shown in Figures 2 and 2b, in the Incubator. Figures 2a and 2b:  Electronics layout in the Forma Incubator (left) and Analog Output board close-up (right)
  7. Slightly loosen the screws for Temp and CO2 (+) and (-) channels, circled in Figure 2b above, on the terminal block of the Thermo Incubator.
    1. Insert the RED Wire from Connection Cable into Temp (+). Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure.
    2. Insert the WHITE Wire from Connection Cable into Temp (-) slot. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure.
    3. Insert the GREEN Wire from Connection Cable around the CO2 (+) slot from top to bottom. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure.
    4. Insert the BLACK Wire from Connection Cable into the CO2 (-) slot from top to bottom. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure.
  8. Make sure the Connection Cable is wired to the Element-C as shown below:
    1. Slightly loosen the screws in Slots 1 through 4 on the green terminal block on the Element-C.                                Figure 3: Connection cable wiring into Element-C Terminal Block
    2. Insert the RED Wire from the Connection Cable into SLOT 1 of the green terminal block on the Element-C. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure in the slot.
    3. Insert the WHITE Wire from Connection Cable into SLOT 2 of the green terminal block on the Element-C. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure in the slot.
    4. Insert the GREEN Wire from Connection Cable into SLOT 3 of the green terminal block on the Element-C. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure in the slot.
    5. Insert the BLACK Wire from Connection Cable into SLOT 4 of the green terminal block on the Element-C. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure in the slot.
  9. Power on the Thermo Forma Reach-In Incubator.
  10. Plug in the Element-C and make sure chamber data appears on the dashboard.
