Introduction

This page provides work instructions on how to setup the Element-C to connect to the Thermo Forma 4100 Series incubator at the customer site. These instructions apply to the following Thermo Forma models: 

  • 4110
  • 4111
  • 4120
  • 4121
  • 4130
  • 4131
  • 4140
  • 4141

Materials

Your package contains the following items:

  • Element-C w/Power Supply
  • Thermo Incubator Custom Cable
  • Connection cable  NOTE: This is unique to Thermo Forma 4100 Series Incubators

Equipment Needed for Setup

  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Additional screwdriver needed for Thermo Forma 4100 Series incubator connection

Setup Instructions

Prerequisites:

  • Analog output board must be installed on the Incubator

Connecting Element-C on the Thermo Incubator:

  1. Carefully remove the contents from its packaging.  If any of the contents looks damaged, please send a picture of the contents to help@elementalmachines.com 
  2. Plug in the Element-C and complete the Wifi Connect instructions (see attachment).
  3. Power off the ElementC.
  4. Wire the Connection cable to Element-C. 
    1. Slightly loosen the screws in Slots 1 through 8 on the green terminal block on the Element-C.                                    Figure 1: Connection cable wiring into Element-C Terminal Block
    2. Insert the RED Wire from the Connection Cable into SLOT 1 of the green terminal block on the Element-C. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure in the slot.
    3. Insert the WHITE Wire from Connection Cable into SLOT 2 of the green terminal block on the Element-C. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure in the slot.
    4. Insert the ORANGE Wire from Connection Cable into SLOT 3 of the green terminal block on the Element-C. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure in the slot.
    5. Insert the BLUE Wire from Connection Cable into SLOT 4 of the green terminal block on the Element-C. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure in the slot.
    6. Insert the GREEN Wire from Connection Cable into SLOT 5 of the green terminal block on the Element-C. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure in the slot.
    7. Insert the YELLOW Wire from Connection Cable into SLOT 6 of the green terminal block on the Element-C. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure in the slot.
    8. Insert the BLACK Wire from Connection Cable into SLOT 7 of the green terminal block on the Element-C. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure in the slot.
    9. Insert the BROWN Wire from Connection Cable into SLOT 8 of the green terminal block on the Element-C. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure in the slot.
  5. Wire the Connection cable to the Forma 4100 Series Incubator:
    1. Power off the Thermo incubator. (CAUTION: Failure to do so may result in electrical damage or fire.)
    2. Open the cabinet door on the front of the incubator and remove the four screws as shown in Figure 2.                                                    Figure 2:  Cabinet door on front of the incubator
    3. Remove the cover panel. Carefully slide out the electronics drawer and locate the Analog Output board.
    4. Route the Connection cable through the Analog Wiring Inlet to the Forma 4100 Series Incubator as shown in Figure 3.                                    Figure 3: Routing for Connection cable through Analog Wiring Inlet
    5. Slightly loosen the screws for the TEMP, CO2, O2, and RH channels on the terminal block of the Thermo Forma 4100 Series Incubator, as shown in Figure 4.Figure 4: Connection Cable is wired into the TEMP, CO2, and RH (+ ) and (- ) Channels of the Thermo Incubator
    6. Insert the BLUE Wire from Connection Cable into the RH (-) slot. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure.
    7. Insert the ORANGE Wire from Connection Cable into the RH (+) slot. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure.
    8. Insert the YELLOW Wire from Connection Cable into the O2 (-) slot. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure.
    9. Insert the GREEN Wire from Connection Cable around the O2 (+) slot. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure.
    10. Insert the BROWN Wire from Connection Cable around the CO2 (-) slot. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure.
    11. Insert the BLACK Wire from Connection Cable around the CO2 (+) slot. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure.
    12. Insert the WHITE Wire from Connection Cable around the TEMP (-) slot. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure.
    13. Insert the RED Wire from Connection Cable around the TEMP (+) slot. Tighten the screw to ensure that the wire is secure.
  6. Re-install the cover panel. Replace the four screws on the cabinet door.
  7. Power on the Element-C.
  8. Power on the Thermo incubator.
  9. Confirm that incubator conditions appear on the Elemental Machines dashboard. Setup any desired alerts on the dashboard.
